A Personal Journey That Led to a Purpose

Sometimes your calling finds you. Mine arrived first in the halls of Walter Reed, where I watched compassionate caregivers help my injured mother reclaim her life, and again years later inside a dim, forgotten senior home that showed me exactly what dignity shouldn’t look like. Those moments sparked a mission in me to provide homes where elders feel cherished, families feel relief, and “care” truly means family taking care of family.

My name is Andrian Goodum and pictured here with me is my wife, Tanya and our first born daughter, Flora: the inspiration behind the beauty and care of the Flora House Assisted Living, our flagship senior living. I’m grateful for the path that led us to senior care and energized to keep raising the bar for the residents and families we serve.

Here is our story:

A military woman in uniform with a beret standing next to a young man and a young girl, with a woman in black clothing nearby, in front of a vehicle with a sign that reads 'Disabled American Veterans'.
Two people standing next to a sign with black text on a white background, outdoors on a sunny day. The sign reads 'The Flora House Assisted Living' and 'The Capric Group' at the bottom. The man on the left is wearing a white t-shirt and light-colored pants, and the woman on the right is dressed in a light-colored dress and boots. They are smiling and standing on a grassy area with trees and a house in the background.

From Healing Halls to Heartfelt Homes

My path into senior care started long before I ever imagined opening an assisted living home. Years ago, my mother, an Army veteran, was injured while serving in Iraq. Our family spent two years at the Malone House at Walter Reed as she recovered from the effects of PTSD and a traumatic brain injury. It was a difficult time, but it shaped everything.

We’ve always believed in showing up for our family, especially our elders. That season in our lives taught me how powerful real, compassionate care can be, and how essential it is for healing and dignity.

One Visit That Changed Everything

Years later, a job referral for my construction company gave me the opportunity to visit an assisted living home in my area, and it completely shifted my entire career.

What I found was heartbreaking. The space was dark and cramped. There was a lingering odor in the air. Residents sat silently in front of a TV with no real engagement or energy. It didn’t feel like home. It didn’t feel like anyone cared.

And I knew right then—this is not how it should be. No one’s loved one should live like that.

Building Something Better

That experience lit a fire in me. With my background in construction and my wife’s expertise in branding and interior design, we knew we had the tools to create something better. Something that felt like home.

Together, we set out to build more than a facility. We wanted to build a care company rooted in family values, dignity, and true connection. From harmony cultured into our homes, to our higher standard in staffing, we ensure that our home feels like their home.

What We Believe

Care should feel personal. Every resident deserves to be known and respected.

The environment matters. A beautiful, well-designed space supports both health and happiness.

Family values belong at the heart of senior care. We treat every resident the way we’d want our own loved ones to be treated.

Our Mission

We created the Flora House Assisted Living to raise the standard for what senior care should feel like—warm, intentional, uplifting, and truly home. For us, this isn’t just business—it’s personal.

If you’re looking for a place where your loved one will be cared for like family, we’d be honored to welcome you home.
